AmeriCorps Seniors connects today's 55 and older with the people and organizations that need them most. We help them become mentors, coaches, or companions to people in need or contribute their job skills and expertise to community projects and organizations. Volunteers receive guidance and training so they can make a contribution that suits their talents, interests, and availability. At present, the Gloucester County AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer placement program has 320 volunteers serving at 80 non-profit agencies in the county.
Rowan College at Gloucester County Sponsor
Our sponsor Rowan College at Gloucester County has housed the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program for the last 34 years. As of July 2015, the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program has been moved to the Gloucester County Division of Senior Service building at 115 Budd Boulevard West Deptford New Jersey. Our new location has increased the number of seniors we are able to assist each day.
State Health Insurance Program
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP has a direct service program called the State Health Insurance Program or SHIP for Medicare Counseling services. The program is extended to residents on Medicare due to age or disability. The program counselors are volunteers trained and certified by Medicare to counsel and advocate for clients on issues such as billing, insurance choices, appeals, prescription company selections, supplemental, and Advantage plans. At present, the Gloucester County SHIP program counsels 1,700 one on one clients per year and conducts outreach to an additional 2,000 residents through Medicare and You training classes and presentations to all senior groups and low-income housing residents.
