Adoption Services

Sunny the CatThank you for choosing the Gloucester County Animal Shelter to adopt your new best friend! Our adoption process is designed to help you find the best match for your family. Our dedicated adoption team will work as quickly as we can to process your application so you can start meeting our adoptable animals.

Adoption Steps

Your first step toward adopting is completing an adoption application. Applications can be completed in person anytime we are open, online (see link below), or one can be mailed to you. You are welcome to view our animals anytime we are open, but applications must be approved before you can interact (that is, pet, cuddle, walk, and get to know) with a pet.

Once your application is approved, we will discuss the pet you are interested in and if it's a match, we will set up a meet & greet! Our adoption team will also make any suggestions for other pets in our care that would be a match for your family. Once your application is approved, your application will stay on file with us for one year.

Pre-Adoption Application

  • Online Pre-Adoption Application - Simply fill in your answers and submit your application electronically!
  • Pre-Adoption Application (PDF) - Print out the application and fax, mail, or hand-deliver your application to the shelter. Our fax number and mailing address can be found at the top of the pre-adoption application.

You must be 18 years of age to adopt a pet!

Adopting Your Pet

We encourage the entire family to come in to meet the pet you are adopting. Dog adoptions require all dogs in the household to meet our dog. During your interaction, shelter staff will answer any questions about the pet you are adopting, spaying and neutering, housetraining, scratching (for cats), veterinary care, how to deal with fleas and ticks, or any other questions you may have.

Fees

When you have chosen the pet you want to adopt, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee. Our adoption fees are below:

  • Cats/Kittens: $95 for cats/kittens 5 years and younger. Cats 6 and older, adoption fee waived!
  • Dogs/Puppies: $125 for dogs/puppies 5 years and younger. Dogs 6 and older, adoption fee waived!
  • Discounted Fee for Military Veterans: $35 (residents can contact the Animal Shelter for qualifications)
  • Discounted Fee for Senior Citizens: $35 (this reflects a $35 fee for Spay/Neuter and no adoption fee)
  • We have special adoption promotions throughout the year where our fees reduced and/or waived. Contact us to learn more!

Our adoption fees include the following for every animal:

Surgery

All dogs & cats adopted from our facility will be spayed/neutered. If the animal is not spayed/neutered at the time of your adoption, an appointment will be made for surgery and the animal will be delivered to the veterinarian where the new owner can pick up their pet after surgery.

Holding Animals

Our adoption office will do a courtesy hold once you are approved for a pet, so that you and your family can make arrangements to set up a meet & greet. Please note, as a general rule, we cannot hold animals for an extended length of time. Unfortunately, because of tremendous demands on our kennel space, animals can only be held for a family for a limited amount of time.
