State Project Information
The New Jersey Department of Transportation current project along Route 295/42/Interstate 76 Direct Connect Project in Bellmawr, Mt. Ephraim Boroughs and Gloucester City.

Resurfacing & Safety Improvements to Union Street (CR 619) from Sewell Street (CR 628) to Whig Lane (CR 619) in the Township of Elk and the Borough of Glassboro
Gloucester County has contracted South State Inc. to complete the resurfacing and safety improvements to Union Street (CR 619) from Sewell Street (CR 628) to Whig Lane (CR 619). Construction will consist of minor concrete flatwork, storm sewer cleaning & lining, guide rail upgrades, and milling & paving of asphalt.
Work will be performed utilizing detours, lane closures, alternating traffic, and traffic shifts. Please be aware of the changing traffic control. School buses, emergency and sanitation vehicles will be permitted through when required.
The work on the project will start on/about, November 24th, 2025 and is anticipated being completed in January. Day time work hours will be 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Subsequent notice will be provided for paving operations when that work is scheduled.
Resurfacing & Safety Improvements to Berlin Cross Keys Road (CR 689) from the Black Horse Pike (SR 42) to the Camden County Line in Washington and Monroe Townships
The County of Gloucester has contracted South State, Inc. to complete Resurfacing & Safety Improvements to Berlin Cross Keys Road (CR 689) from the Black Horse Pike (SR 42) to the Camden County line. Work will begin on or about September 22, 2025.
The project consists of drainage cleaning, minor concrete sidewalk repairs and roadway milling and paving. Other work after the paving includes striping, rpm installation and sign replacement. Typical work hours will be 7am – 5pm Monday through Friday.
Much of the construction will be completed with lane shifts and lane closures as needed. Please follow the posted traffic control during working hours. Emergency vehicles, buses, mail and trash pickup will be permitted through the work zone. This project is anticipated being completed in November 2025.
Night time milling and paving for the project will start on/about, October 8th, 2025 and is anticipated being completed in about 3 shifts. Night time work hours will be 7pm - 6am Monday through Friday.
Resurfacing & Safety Improvements to Sicklerville Road (CR 536 Spur) from the Camden County Line to Route 42/US Rt 322 in Monroe Township
The County of Gloucester has contracted Lexa Concrete, LLC to complete Resurfacing & Safety Improvements to Sicklerville Road (CR 536 Spur) from the Camden County line to Route 42/US Route 322. Work will begin on/about 8/25/25.
The project consists of drainage improvements, ADA curb ramp installation, traffic signal improvements and roadway resurfacing. Typical work hours will be 7 am – 4pm Monday through Friday.
Much of the construction will be completed with lane shifts. A one way detour will be implemented beginning Monday 8/25 during work hours. Eastbound traffic will be detoured. Please follow the posted detour. Emergency vehicles, buses, mail and trash pickup will be permitted through. This project is anticipated being completed in December 2025.
Resurfacing & Safety Improvements to Elk Road (CR 538) Between Bridgeton Pike (SR 77) and Hardingville Road (CR 609) and Ferrell Road (CR 616) Between Bridgeton Pike (SR 77) and Elk Road (CR 538) in the Township of Elk
The County of Gloucester has contracted Richard E. Pierson Construction Co., Inc. to perform Road Resurfacing and Safety Improvements to Elk Road and Ferrell Road in the Township of Elk, Gloucester County. This project is scheduled to begin on or about August 4, 2025. Construction activities will take place Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Work is anticipated being completed by the end of October, 2025, weather permitting.
The project areas extend on Elk Road (CR-538) from Bridgeton Pike (Route 77) to Hardingville Road (CR-609) and Ferrell Road (CR-616) from Bridgeton Pike (Route 77) to Elk Road (CR-538). Some work will require detours of Elk Road (CR-538) and Ferrell Road (CR-616), please follow posted detour signs. All local residents will have full access from Bridgeton Pike (Route 77) and Hardingville Road (CR-609) at all times. Detour hours will be implemented from 7:00AM to 5:30PM and lifted after working hours. Trash, mail, and emergency vehicles will be permitted throughout the project at all times.
Milling and paving is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 22, 2025 on Ferrell Road (CR 616) between State Route 77 and Elk Road (CR 538). Work on Elk Road (CR 538) is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 22nd. This work will start with the installation of some asphalt leveling course and then the road will be milled and paved later in the week. Striping and new signage will follow after the paving is completed.
Intersection Improvements at Glassboro Road (US 322) and Fries Mill Road (CR 655) in Monroe Township
The County of Gloucester has contracted R.E. Pierson Construction to perform intersection improvements at the intersection of Glassboro Road and Fries Mill Road. Improvements include widening the intersection, adding turn lanes, updating the traffic signal, installing drainage improvements, new concrete curb, new paving, signage and striping. Work on this project is scheduled to restart the week of June 9, 2025. Please proceed with caution through the construction zone.
Resurfacing and Safety Improvements to Almonesson Road (CR 621) between Clements Bridge Road (CR 544) and Good Intent Road (CR 534) and Clements Bridge Road (CR 544) between Almonesson Road (CR 621) and SR 42 in Deptford Township
The County of Gloucester has contracted Kyle Conti Construction, LLC to complete Resurfacing and Safety Improvements to Almonesson Road (CR 621) between Clements Bridge Road (CR 544) and Good Intent Road (CR 534) and Clements Bridge Road (CR 544) between Almonesson Road (CR 621) and SR 42 in Deptford Township. Work will begin April 28, 2025.
The project consists of milling, paving, sidewalk, and drainage improvements. Much of the construction will be using daily lane closures. Road closures and detours will be utilized when required. Typical work hours will be from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm with paving work being completed overnight between 8:00 pm and 6:00 am. On or about Thursday, September 18, 2025, the milling and paving operations will begin at night. Traffic control will be placed each night, with the milling and paving beginning at 8 pm. One directional detours will be in place on Almonesson Road between Good Intent Road and Deptford Court Road. All other roads that are at least 4 lanes wide will utilize lane shifts to keep traffic flowing through the project around the mall. This work is anticipated to be completed by September 25, 2025, weather permitting.
Emergency vehicles and buses will be permitted though the work zone. Residents and businesses shall have access to their driveways even with the detours in place. Local police will be utilized to help with traffic control. Please use caution when traveling through the work zone.
Resurfacing and Safety Improvements to Kings Highway (CR 605/CR 551) from the Roundabout to
Glen Echo Avenue (CR 538 ) in the Borough of Swedesboro
Gloucester County has contracted South State Inc. to complete the resurfacing and safety improvements to Kings Highway (CR 605/CR 551) from the Center Square Road Roundabout to Glen Echo Avenue. Construction will consist of ADA ramp safety improvements, storm sewer improvements, and milling & paving of asphalt. Work will be performed utilizing detours, lane closures, alternating traffic, and Traffic Shifts. Please be aware of the changing traffic control. School buses, emergency and sanitation vehicles will be permitted through when required.
The work on the project will start on/about, April 14th, 2025 and is anticipated being completed in August. Day Time Work hours will be 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Replacement of Bridge 8-F-2, Commissioners Road (CR 581) over Oldmans Creek in the Township of South Harrison
The County of Gloucester has contracted Marbro, Inc. for the replacement of Bridge 8-F-2 over Oldmans Creek at Commissioners Rd (CR 581) in South Harrison, Gloucester County and Upper Pittsgrove Twp , Salem County. The new bridge will consist of a new precast arch culvert on a pile foundation and has been designed to meet current standards. Work will include the decommissioning of the dam, removal of the existing dam spillway structure, and the draining of Algonkin Lake. The project also includes the removal of the existing bridge structure, replacement and upgrades to the existing guiderail, reconstruction of the adjacent roadway, minor drainage improvements, installation of gabion baskets walls, installation of a temporary coffer dam, signage, and striping. Work will require the closure of CR 581 Commissioners Road at the bridge and a detour will be implemented during construction. Work is to anticipated to begin in March, 2025 and is anticipated being completed within 1 year of starting construction.

Route 322 By-Pass
PROJECT UPDATE
After the first rounds of public meetings and feedback that were held on May 8th and July 10th of 2024, the County has authorized the design team of McCormick and Taylor to refine its preferred alternative route to reduce the flow of traffic into Glassboro on Route 322 and eliminate the Girard Road additional / separate lane concept.
In addition, the county requested based upon the same public feedback to modify the current proposed Ellis Mill Road alternative to require Truck Traffic to utilize Route 55, Exit 48 only. It is important to note that the significant and growing traffic congestion in Glassboro, particularly on Route 322, Bowe Boulevard and Route 47 (Delsea Drive) will significantly improve once all phases of the new bypass alternatives are implemented.
The goal of this project is to move all traffic that currently traverses Route 322 for other reasons like seasonal shore traffic and the usual everyday navigation of East - West corridor to completely utilize and the alternate routes to Ellis Mill Road and while also creating a local business district route off Ellis Mill Road to High Street. This will eliminate the need for the alternate route through the downtown and ensure preservation of Girard Road and the Historic Chestnut Ridge Development.
However, there will be and should be more pedestrian and safety upgrades in this area of Girard Road / University Boulevard. Once the design firm completes all these requests and modifications, the County will host another public session. Thank you for your patience and input into this project as we strive for the best outcome to address the safety, preservation, and significant traffic congestion in Glassboro.

2022 County Wide Drainage and Stormwater Management Project in Various Locations Throughout the County
The County of Gloucester has contracted South State, Inc. to perform storm pipe replacement of various sized existing stormwater pipes, the construction and rehabilitation of various drainage inlets, the installation of rip rap for slope and channel protection, type ‘D’ repairs to various parapets, walls, box culverts and arch pipes along with pneumatically applied mortar, crack injection repairs, installation of grout bags, and other miscellaneous work such as paving restoration throughout the County.
Dino Trail
Gloucester County and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) are developing three options for a 3-to-5-mile multi-use path, proposed from Rowan University in Glassboro Borough, through Pitman Borough, to Edelman Fossil Park & Museum in Mantua Township (see below map). The Dinosaur Trail will serve as the spine for Gloucester County’s multi-use trail network. It will offer safe, active transportation for residents, provide direct walking and biking access to local destinations, help alleviate traffic congestion, and connect seamlessly with the Circuit Trail systems across South Jersey and Greater Philadelphia.

Route 55 / Deptford Center Road Interchange Project
This concept development project in the Township of Deptford is in the early planning stages involving the extension of Deptford Center Road across the Route 55 interchange to link to Clements Bridge Road (CR 544) by means of Greenbrier Court.
The project will evaluate the need for interchange improvements at Deptford Center Road by way of decreasing congestion by improving the Almonesson Road (CR 621) intersection with Deptford Center Road, by converting the interchange to permit traffic movements to the west of Route 55, optimizing intersection designs and increasing ramp lengths along Route 55. The project is being administered by Gloucester County through an agreement with the NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT).
As a concept development project, no construction timeline has been established.
Bridgeton Pike, State Route 45 with Mount Royal Road (CR 678) Intersection Project
The County of Gloucester through agreement and permit with the NJDOT is currently designing the widening of the Route 45/CR 678 intersection in Mantua Township. The project design will provide for the formal left turn lanes in all directions of travel with widening to increase the operating level of the intersection to acceptable limits. The project also includes ADA handicap ramp improvements and cutting back the existing curbs to permit for truck movements.
Bridgeton Pike, State Route 45 with Mantua Boulevard / Berkley Road (CR 632) Intersection Project
The County of Gloucester also through agreement and permit with the NJDOT is currently designing the widening of the Route 45/CR 632 intersection in Mantua Township.
The project will better align the opposing direction of Mantua Boulevard/Berkley Road (CR 632) to allow for concurrent movements of travel on CR 632 thereby increasing the operating level of the intersection to acceptable limits. Opposing left turn lanes will also be constructed on CR 632. The project also includes ADA handicap ramp improvements and increasing the turning radii to permit for truck movements.
Cooper Street CR 706 Bridge / Dam at Almonesson Lake
Gloucester County Office of the County Engineer, together with The Delaware Valley River Planning Commission (DVRPC), had contracted with French & Parrello to study alternatives to address the deficiencies of the existing structure on Cooper Street at Almonesson Lake. The preferred alternative of widening and replacing the structure has been advanced to Engineering. During this phase, all aspects of the preferred alternative will be evaluated and coordinated with the Township of Deptford, Green Acres and the various utilities in the vicinity.
Porchtown Road (CR 613) over Still Run (Iona Lake) Bridge Replacement
Gloucester County Office of the County Engineer, together with The Delaware Valley River Planning Commission (DVRPC), has contracted with Pennoni to study alternatives to address the deficiencies of the existing structure on Porchtown Road at Iona Lake. The preferred alternative of replacing the structure has been advanced to Engineering. During this phase, all aspects of the preferred alternative will be evaluated and engineered for construction.
As the engineering advances, a Public Information Session will be held to keep the public informed of the project’s progress.
