On November 7 at 2 a.m., daylight saving time will officially end and clocks need to be moved back an hour. The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners encourages residents to use this upcoming change to remind themselves to also check their smoke detectors.
“While changing clocks to the correct time tomorrow, make sure you also check the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Making sure any accessories in emergency kits are still in working order is a great way to accomplish two important and otherwise easy tasks in one go,” said Director Robert M. Damminger.
“Checking your smoke detectors’ batteries while resetting your clocks could ultimately save your loved one’s lives,” said Commissioner Dan Christy. “Smoke and other detectors should be replaced every ten years to ensure maximum efficiency in keeping homes and families safe.”

Batteries should be replaced at least twice a year in smoke detectors, making the end of daylight saving time a great time to do so. Residents are encouraged to change batteries and check detectors when daylight saving begins, and a second time when it ends.
