Located on the waterfront of the Delaware River, Red Bank Battlefield played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War when Hessians attacked Fort Mercer on October 22, 1777.
The park is home to the James and Ann Whitall house. Built in 1748, the Whitall House offers tours and programs throughout the year that focus on the history of the park.
The Gloucester County Certified Gardeners maintain our historic gardens. The gardeners are volunteers who actively work to cultivate vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs, dyeing flowers, and cutting flowers that are historically representative of the eighteenth century.
Red Bank Battlefield offers tours of the Whitall House, gardens and grounds to share the history that happened at the park. The Whitall House is currently showing their newest exhibit, “Whispers of the Past: Archeology at Red Bank Battlefield.”
The exhibit features over 50 objects documenting the Battle of Red Bank, the Whitall family farm, and Native American life along the Delaware River. The exhibit is open to the public Thursday-Sunday from 1 p.m.– 4 p.m.
In addition to the historical showcases the park offers, the park is also home to 2 large pavilions available to rent for events.
The Department of Parks and Recreation offers programs to explore the park as well including:
- History Tots (Registration and waiver required)
- Summer History Camp ((Registration and waiver required)
