Gloucester County is committed to serving our residents and providing them with the best services we have to offer.

As Director of the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners, I have the privilege to oversee all departments that serve the residents of Gloucester County. 

In 2021, we’re continuing these services, events and more and want to educate you on how you can get the most out of living in Gloucester County.

The Gloucester County Surrogate Court’s goal is to provide professional, courteous, and friendly service to the residents of Gloucester County. The Gloucester County Surrogate is Giuseppe Chila. 

The Gloucester County Surrogate administers a court which is certain to touch the lives of every person in the county at some time. The responsibility of the Surrogate is to oversee the administration of the many services offered by this Surrogate's Court. 

These include: 

  • Validating Wills and appointing Executors
  • Appointing administrators for those who die without Wills
  • Reviewing and assisting with the documentation surrounding adoption
  • The Court also schedules adoption hearings
  • Reviewing and assisting with the documentation surrounding and adult guardianship
  • The Court also schedules Superior Court Probate Part case hearings
  • Management of funds in the Surrogate Intermingled Trust Fund for the benefit of Minors
  • The Surrogate is permitted to officiate Marriages and Civil Unions
  • The Surrogate Court holds public records that date back to the 1700s.
