Commissioner Heather Simmons presented a proclamation to Jason Nothdurft- recipient of the Richard K. Sallick Advocacy Award in 2020, the presentation being delayed due to the pandemic.
This proclamation was very important to Commissioner Simmons because she is the recipient of a kidney transplant and Nothdurft was a donor.
Jason Nothdurft was raised in Swedesboro, NJ and in 2014, at the age of 27, made the decision to donate a kidney to the stepfather of a family that he is close with. After this experience, he applied to be a part of the Kidney Advocacy Committee, enabling him to work towards accomplishments for the greater good. As a Rowan University graduate, his political science major assisted him in navigating the path to help pass legislation that benefits kidney donors and recipients.
Nothdurft was honored during the 7th Annual Kidney Patient Summit held virtually on September 16, 2020. He received the Richard K. Sallick Advocacy Award, given to an individual who embodies the spirit of the National Kidney Foundation’s dear friend and former colleague, Rich Sallick, a former pro-surfer who underwent three kidney transplants and faced cancer, but still put the needs of other kidney patients ahead of his own.
