The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners and the Workforce Development Board have free career services at the American Job Center.

September 4, 2021 is the deadline for extended unemployment benefits and the American Rescue Plan Act’s weekly $300 supplemental benefits received by more than 200,000 New Jerseyans.

“The job market has become increasingly competitive and many industries are offering increased hourly wages, sign-on bonuses and free college tuition to attract and retain employees,” said Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger. “This means there are thousands of opportunities in South Jersey to land a good paying job with an attractive benefits program.”

“While extended pandemic-related unemployment benefits expire on September 4, thousands of businesses throughout South Jersey have job opportunities,” said Commissioner Heather Simmons, liaison to the Department of Economic Development. “The Of Gloucester County Workforce partners are ready to help with a range of career related services.”

The free services offered at the American Job Center include:

  • Job search assistance
  • Resume reviews and interview skills
  • Career counseling
  • Training grants for unemployed and underemployed individuals
  • In person and virtual job fairs and recruitment events

Residents can receive weekly notification of new jobs in the area by texting the word “Gloucester” to 56512. Subscribers will receive our weekly job listing.

Job seekers and underemployed residents are also encouraged to register with Skillup NJ, a free online portal with more than 6,000 courses focusing on business, IT and health topics and Job Source, that offers a variety of tools designed to help fuel a successful job search experience. Users can create a free account and get tips and templates for Job Search, Resume Writing, Cover Letters and many other free services.

The American Job Center is not an unemployment office and cannot assist with unemployment claims.

All unemployment claimants are asked to file new claims, update existing claims, or ask questions about their claims online at  https://myunemployment.nj.gov. Claimants can call unemployment services at 732-761-2020. An expanded call center, along with redirected Department of Labor personnel, have increased the capacity to address callers’ issues since the pandemic began

The American Job Center can be contacted at 856-384-3700 for additional information and services.
