The Annual Butterfly Festival this Saturday

(National Park, NJ -- The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners announced that a Butterfly Festival, hosted by the Gloucester County Certified Gardeners, will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from noon to 4 p.m. at the County's Red Bank Battlefield Park located at 100 Hessian Ave., National Park.

The free event is open to the public. Free Gardening Seminars will also be held along with a Butterfly & Bug Parade and a Photography Contest open to amateur photographers.

Director Robert M. Damminger said, “This is a great event to learn more about the butterflies that inhabit Gloucester County and the important role they play in a healthy garden and environment.”

This year’s schedule includes:

12:30 p.m. All About Insects with Dr. Dan, Entomologist at Rowan University

1:30 p.m. How to Attract Butterflies to Your Yard, Heather MacGregor of GC Certified Gardener

2:30 p.m. The “Buzz” on Bees, Steve Kozachyn of Kozy Acres Farm

2:45 p.m. Bug Parade- wear your wings & antennas

“The purpose of our Butterfly Festival is to educate our residents on the importance of butterflies and provide them with ways to attract them to their own yards,” said Commissioner Jim Lavender, liaison to the Department of Parks and Recreation.

There will be vendors on hand selling plants that will help turn your garden into a “butterfly cafeteria”, food trucks and artisans selling hand-crafted items.
