County Memorial Day Ceremony to be held on Sunday, May 30

(Monroe Twp., NJ) – The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners will hold the Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Sunday, May 30 at 1 p.m. at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Wreaths will be placed to honor fallen comrades during the hour-long ceremony that will conclude with a rifle salute and TAPS. After the program is over, families will be given a carnation to lie upon the graves of their loved one.

Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger said, “We invite everyone to come and safely pay respect to our servicemen and women who have given so much for our country on Memorial Day. It is a day of heroes.”

Director Damminger, said that Friday, May 28 at 5:30 p.m. volunteers will gather to mark the graves of the veterans interred at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Anyone wishing to help place flags can meet at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. This year’s lead group is Cub Pack #1721, WHFD Troop 151, and Venturing Crew 21.

Commissioner Dan Christy, Liaison to Veterans Affairs, said, “Marking the graves of those who served our country is the most fitting way to start the Memorial Day weekend. This year we will be placing over 3,000 American Flags.” 

The ceremony is open to everyone and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and arrive early. Please abide by social distancing and mask mandates. The ceremony is held rain or shine.

Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 240 South Tuckahoe Road, Monroe Township. Parking will be available onsite.
