Join Gloucester County Library for a virtual event

Gloucester County Library System (GCLS) will hold a virtual author discussion with historian Dr. Keisha N. Blain.

Dr. Keisha N. Blain is an award-winning historian, professor, author and editor of Four Hundred Souls.

“We are always honored to have authors join the library for these virtual book clubs,” said Director Robert M. Damminger. “Four Hundred Souls is an extraordinary book that tells the story of the four-hundred-year journey of African Americans from 1919 to the present.”

Dr. Keisha N. Blain is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Pittsburgh, president of the African American Intellectual History Society, and an editor for the Washington Post’s ‘Made by History’ section. She is currently a 2020-21 fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard University. 

Her writing has appeared in popular outlets such as The Atlantic, The Guardian, Politico, and Time. She is the author of Set the World on Fire: Black Nationalist Women and the Global Struggle for Freedomand Until I Am Free: Fannie Lou Hamer's Enduring Message to America. Four Hundred Souls is a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

“The Gloucester County Library System has transformed its programming in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. They continue to bring prolific authors directly to the homes of our members through their online programming,” said Commissioner Lyman Barnes.
