March 2021 has been designated as "Tire Amnesty Month" in Gloucester County, announced Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger.

Gloucester County will accept used tires from county residents and municipalities at the Solid Waste Complex in South Harrison in March and during a special Saturday drop-off on March 20. The program will conclude on Wednesday, March 31.

County residents can dispose of up to 10 passenger-car and pickup-truck tires at no cost at the Gloucester County Solid Waste Complex. The Saturday, March 20 event will be held rain-or-shine and will run from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

The Gloucester County Solid Waste Complex is located at 493 Monroeville Rd. (Route 694) in South Harrison. The site is open to accept tires Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"The county began this program in 2001 to assist with waste and recycling. By collecting the tires in March, we are able to shred them in April before mosquito breeding season begins,” said Director Damminger.

Tires are a primary breeding ground for mosquitoes, which can carry West Nile Virus. The collected tires are ground to chips which are used for construction projects within the facility and county.

This program is for Gloucester County residents only. No tire drop-offs from commercial businesses will be accepted.

County residents with more than 10 tires will be directed to our website www.gcianj.com for the NJDEP Tire Disposal Facility Listing where they can find information on disposing their large number of tires.
