The Office of the Medical Examiner is a regional office that serves the residents of Gloucester, Camden, and Salem Counties. The office is legally responsible for determining cause and manner of death for those individuals that fall within our jurisdiction, both geographically and within statuary requirements in the following instances:
All cases of apparent homicidal deaths
All deaths from causes which might constitute a threat to public health
All deaths occurring under suspicious, traumatic, or unusual circumstances
All deaths of inmates of jail
All infants and children suspected of having been abused or neglected and children suspected of having died from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
Complete and thorough Medico-legal death investigation utilizing the combined and coordinated resources of scene investigation, autopsy, and forensic laboratories are conducted.
