Upcoming Programs at Scotland Run Park

(Clayton, NJ) - The Gloucester County Board of Freeholders invites residents to participate in the after summer events and programs planned at the county's Scotland Run Park.    

"The county's Parks and Recreation Department will hold family programming through the fall," said Freeholder Director Sweeney.  "September, October and November are perfect months to participate in activities at Scotland Run Park."

"Scotland Run Park Nature Center provides environmental education programs for children and adults throughout the year," stated Freeholder DiMarco, liaison to the Parks Department. DiMarco said. 

Scotland Run Park Nature Center is located on Academy Street in Clayton.  Please register for all programs in advance by calling 856-881-0845.  There are no fees charged for any of the programs.

Campfire/ Cookout and Night Hike

Friday, September 28th 6:30 pm

All are invited.  Hot dogs and beverages will be provided, but bring other food to share. Learn about the 4H Kids Nature Club which will meet at the Nature Center on the first Saturday of the month at 10:30am.

Autumn Bird Walks

Saturday, September 8th, October 6th, and November 3rd at 8 am

Meet at the Nature Center.  No experience is necessary, just bring a pair of binoculars and dress comfortably. 

2007 Kids Fishing Contest

Saturday, September 15th 8:30 am to 11:30 am

For Kids 18 years and younger, sponsored by Gloucester County Parks and Recreation and Sportsmen's Outpost of Williamstown.  There are 3 age categories:  7 and under; 8 to 13 years; and 14 to 18 years. Awards and prizes for the 1st and 2nd heaviest catches in each group.  There are boating and non-boating categories.  Kids 16 years and older must be licensed.  Registration is held on the day of the contest.  Rain or shine.

Canoeing/Kayaking on Wilson Lake

Saturday, September 22nd 11 am

Explore Wilson Lake and Scotland Run.  Canoes and Kayaks are provided on a limited basis or you can bring your own.  If you've never been out on a canoe or kayak, this is a great introduction to this fun activity

Nature Tots Programs

Wednesday, September 12th, October 10th, October 14th at 10 am

Preschoolers and their caregivers will have fun doing crafts and exploring the outdoors.  Please dress for the weather. 

Afternoon Nature Strolls

Wednesday, September 19th, October 17th and November 28th at 2:30 pm

This program is for senior citizens, home-schoolers, shift workers, caregivers with young children, and those home during the day who would like to get some fresh air, exercise and enjoy Nature with others, in the afternoon.  Meet at the Nature Center to explore different trails each afternoon.

Scout Saturdays at Scotland Run

Saturday, September 29th, October 20th and November 17 at 10am

Scout Groups needing to earn their Forestry and/or Naturalist badges can register for Scout Saturdays for guided nature walks.  This program is geared just for Scouts, but other organized groups are invited to join the fun.  Each walk is 60 to 90 minutes and is held rain or shine. 

4H Kid's Nature Club

Saturday, November 3rd at 10:30 am

The 4H Kid's get together to work on crafts and projects in the Nature Center, and take hikes and nature walks through the woods in the park.  It's a great way to get involved with 4H.
