Gloucester County Military Service Medal Ceremony This Saturday 127 County Veterans will be honored
(Washington Twp., NJ ) - The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced today that the county will hold its Military Service Medal Ceremony on Saturday, September 15th at the Commerce Bank Arts Centre located at the Washington Township High School. The ceremony begins at 11:00 am.
"Gloucester County will be presenting 127 Military Service Medals at our ceremony this year," said Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney. "Since we began this program the county has presented 4,348 medals to the men and women who have so bravely served our nation. We are continually pleased to see veterans and their families come to the ceremony to accept their Military Service Medal. We have a very active veterans' community, and this is a day when we can all salute them and their service," Director Sweeney said.
Sweeney explained that the County's Military Service Medal was designed and commissioned by the Freeholders in 2001 for all Gloucester County Veterans who have served on active duty in the military and received an honorable discharge.
"There is not enough gratitude we can give our veterans, but this is a small gesture to say thank you to our veterans for their service to our nation," said Freeholder Giuseppe (Joe) Chila. "Their service and sacrifice are what enables us to live in the greatest country in the world." Freeholder Chila is the Liaison to the County Office Veterans Affairs.
The ceremony is open to the public.
