(West Deptford, NJ) The Gloucester County Board of Freeholders is holding a Consumer Symposium on Wednesday, October 3rd from 8:15 am to 12 noon at RiverWinds Community Center in West Deptford.  The event is free of charge and a continental breakfast will be served.

The Consumer Symposium will feature Leonard Gordon of the Federal Trade Commission, a US Postal Inspector, a Gloucester County Consumer Investigator, a Weights and Measures expert, a Detective from the Gloucester County Prosecutors Office, and CBS3s Consumer Reporter Jim Donovan.

New information on how to protect yourself from Identity Theft, what to know when hiring a home contractor, how to prevent postal fraud and other topics such as common scams and international lotteries will all be covered at the Consumer Symposium.

Gloucester County is proactive in educating our residents on ways they can protect themselves from identity theft, scams and what they need to be on the look out for in general to keep their good names and finances safe, said Freeholder Director Sweeney.

This informational event will give our residents the opportunity to ask questions and get a great education on topics like what they need to know when hiring a home contractor, and how to protect their personal information, Sweeney said.

Freeholder Joe Chila, liaison to the countys Office of Consumer Protection, said that in addition to providing education and resources to consumers that this year the Office has already recovered more than $140,000 in direct monetary refunds and money value refunds for consumers.

Our Consumer Protection Office is a great resource for citizens to use if they feel they have been taken advantage by a merchant or service provider.
