Swedesboro Borough Hall to Serve as Temporary Library during Expansion Project l
On Monday, May 3, GCLS will open a temporary satellite branch at the Swedesboro Borough Hall, 1500 Kings Highway, to serve Swedesboro residents while the new addition to the Swedesboro Branch Library is under construction.
The temporary library in the Borough Hall will be open Monday through Thursday from 3-8pm, and on Saturdays from 10am-2pm. The satellite library will offer public computers, copy machine, public fax, newspapers and magazines, and notary service by appointment. The bulk of the library's collection - books, DVDs, CDs, and other items - will be placed in storage until the addition is complete. In the meantime, Swedesboro library users may have items delivered from other branch libraries to the satellite location, or visit any other GCLS or LOGIN library. Story times and other programs for children and adults will continue to take place in the Bethesda United Methodist Church at 1433 Kings Highway.
Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney said that the expansion to the Swedesboro Branch Library will provide an additional 3,000 square feet to be added to the existing 2,500 square foot building and will include a meeting room, a larger children's area, a quiet study room, restroom, a staff lounge, and more comfortable surroundings for library users and space for more public-access computers.
Freeholder Giuseppe (Joe) Chila, Liaison to GCLS said, "The temporary site for the Library may be a little tight until the expansion is completed, but we are grateful to our partners for helping out so that no programming will be affected."
"The Swedesboro Mayor, Council, and staff have shown amazing support for the library expansion project" says GCLS Director Anne Wodnick.
"Mayor Tom Fromm has volunteered to give up his office, and the Borough staff is giving up their break room to make room for the library. GCLS is very grateful for their commitment to providing library service to Swedesboro residents. We are also grateful for the continuing generosity of Bethesda United Methodist Church and their willingness to provide space for programming."
