WHY: The deployment of this equipment is part of New Jerseys comprehensive homeland security and domestic preparedness strategy. This state-of-the-art equipment, which is housed in Gloucester County, is designed to combat large petrochemical liquid fires that could threaten critical chemical plants and oil refineries in the South Jersey area. The deployment of the equipment to South Jersey complements similar equipment that has been purchased through New Jerseys federally sponsored Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) and is deployed in the northern part of the state.
VISUALS: Demonstration of high-tech firefighting system, including:
- Large volumes of water shot approximately 500 feet in the air
- A modular pump drawing water from the Delaware River;
- Contingents of firefighters and emergency personnel.
