County’s Nature Center Holding Fun Holiday Craft and Outdoor Programs

(Clayton, NJ) – The Gloucester County Board of Freeholders invites residents to combine the joy of the holidays and nature with many events and programs sponsored by the Gloucester County Department of Parks and Recreation. 

“Everyone is young at heart during the holidays and our Parks Department has events that combine the joys of the season with the beauty of our natural world,” said Freeholder Director Sweeney.

Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco, liaison to the County Parks and Recreation noted that all events will be held that the Gloucester County Nature Center at Scotland Run Park on Academy Street in Clayton.  There is no charge to participate in any of the programs, however registration is encouraged. 

“Gloucester County’s Nature Center at Scotland Run Park is a treasure in our parks system.  Our knowledgeable staff is in tune with the programs that families are looking for both educationally and recreationally and when it comes to the holiday season, it’s the best bargain in town for entertaining the entire family,” Freeholder Frank DiMarco said. 

December 13th – Nature Tots
The “Nature Tots” program sponsored by Gloucester County Parks and Recreation lets preschoolers and their caregivers experience nature through crafts and outdoor activities.  Programs are scheduled for Wednesday, December 13, January 10 and February 14 at 10am.  The Nature Tots meet at Scotland Run Park Nature Center, which is located on Academy Street in Clayton.  Please register by calling 856-881-0845.  Be sure to dress for the outdoors.

December 14th – Evergreen Wreath Making Class
To put you in the holiday spirit, Gloucester County Parks and Recreation is having a free “Evergreen Wreath Making Class”.  Join us on Thursday, December 14 at 7pm at Scotland Run Park Nature Center.  You’ll need to bring a wire coat hanger, pruners, holiday ribbon, and evergreen cuttings.  If you don’t have these materials, there will be plenty on hand to share.  We’ll even teach you how to make a bow!  Space is limited, so please call 856-881-0845 to register.

December 16th – Holiday Scavenger Hunt and Craft
Take a break from the hectic holiday season, and join Gloucester County Parks and Recreation for a “Holiday Scavenger Hunt and Craft”.  Meet at the Scotland Run Park Nature Center on Saturday, December 16 at 10am.  We’ll be making a natural holiday ornament and then venture outside to search for reindeer lichen, holly with beautiful red berries, wild turkeys, evergreens and signs of Rudolph and his friends.  The entire family will enjoy this fun, holiday program.
