COUNTY TO BEGIN NEW "FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" Free Outdoor Movies will be held at Atkinson Memorial Park

(Washington Twp.) - Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney and Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco announced today that the County's Parks Department was beginning its free 'Friday Night at the Movies' program beginning on Friday October 14th at 7:30 pm at Atkinson Memorial Park. A free bag of popcorn will be given to everyone attending the "Friday Night at the Movies."

"Our Parks programming is so popular with our residents that we wanted to expand that service," said Freeholder Director Sweeney. "We felt that free family movies were a great way for us to offer more events in our parks, so we have had our Parks Department working on putting this together for a couple of months and now we will be able to offer family movies just in time for the Halloween season," said Director Sweeney.

The first outdoor movie, "Shark Boy and Lava Girl 3D" is scheduled for Friday, October 14th at 7:30 p.m. (rain date is Saturday, October 15th at 7:30 p.m.). The first 100 participants will receive 3D glasses.

On Friday, October 28th, "Scooby Doo II: Monsters" will be shown at Atkinson Memorial Park at 7:30 p.m. (rain date is Saturday, October 29th).

"These are the first outdoor movies that will be shown on the County of Gloucester's new blow-up outdoor screen," said Freeholder Frank DiMarco, liaison to the county's Parks Department. "The new screen and sound system is fantastic and the new outdoor movies are going to be a lot of fun," said DiMarco. The new screen is 16'x 9'.

DiMarco said, "It is a little chilly at night now, but it will be fun for everyone to bring their lawn chairs and blankets and bundle up and watch a movie under the stars." DiMarco stated, "Additional movies will be shown on a regular basis starting in late spring of 2006." Freeholder DiMarco said that the Parks Department is currently working on a plan that would offer a "Friday Night at the Movies" in nearly every town in the county. "Because the system is portable we will be able to bring it to parks throughout the county," said Freeholder DiMarco. "This is a wonderful addition to our recreation programming."

James G. Atkinson Memorial Park is located on Delsea Drive and Bethel Mill Road in Hurffville. Rainout information will be available after 4 pm on the date of the show by calling 589-0047.
