Gloucester County Presents 5th Annual Women's Health Summit "Yes I Can Be Healthy"is the theme for the October 22nd event

(Woodbury, NJ) - Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney and Freeholder Helene M. Reed announced that the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders is sponsoring the 5th Annual 2005 Women's Health Summit themed "Yes, I Can Be Healthy" on Saturday, October 22 nd.

This event is free to the public and provides information focused on broadening health awareness for women of all ages. The Summit offers workshops, exhibitors, children's activities, health screenings, refreshments, a healthy lunch and door prizes. The Women's Health Summit is proudly held at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology (GCIT) at 1300 Tanyard Road in Sewell.

"The 2005 Women's Health Summit was designed to empower women to lead healthier lifestyles," said Freeholder Director Sweeney. "Women are often so busy taking care of others that they don't remember to take care of themselves. This event provides women with a day of learning just for themselves," Director Sweeney said.

Freeholder Helene M. Reed, liaison to the Department of Health and Senior Services said that Jim Donovan, author of Handbook to a Happier Life is this year's keynote speaker.

Jim Donovan began giving seminars on marketing to corporations in 1992, after a career in corporate video and broadcast television. His seminar business soon developed into "how to change your life" and from that evolved the stories in this book. He and his wife live in Buckingham , Pennsylvania .

Freeholder Reed said, "As a woman in elected office I feel it is very important for women to come together and learn and share on topics that affect them personally." Reed said, "Participants get to choose from many interesting and diverse workshop topics led by local experts."

The Women's Health Summit will offer participants a variety of health screenings including, blood pressure, glaucoma and vision screenings, and cholesterol and glucose screenings. New this year is a glucose meter trade-in where participants can bring in used glucose meters and trade for a new replacement meter.

Supervised children activities are offered so that participants do not need to find a babysitter in order to participate. Additionally, car seat safety checks and the fingerprinting identification program will be available.

At the Women's Health Summit participants will find approximately 100 exhibitors. These exhibitors provide information on health, children, seniors, fitness, financial and social topics. The exhibitors are mostly Gloucester County agencies and organizations.

The Women's Health Summit is presented by the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Gloucester County Department of Health and Senior Services. Members of the Gloucester County community have sponsored various aspects of the Summit through monetary and product donations as well as serving on the Collaboration.

D. Yes, I Can Maintain My Health thru Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Join us and learn about the history of acupuncture, learn about how it works and what the benefits are. Learn what to expect from an acupuncturist.

E. Yes, I Can Understand Osteoarthritis and Treatment Options
This workshop will discuss the signs and symptoms of arthritis and the treatment options, including minimally invasive surgery.

Southern New Jersey Academy of Performing Arts presents a play about breaking the cycle of violence. Monologues, scenes and songs ranging from the perspective of the abused, friends and family members of the victims and the actual abusers.
