The Wall That Heals & Gloucester County Military Service Medal Ceremony Many events scheduled for the arrival of The Wall That Heals

(West Deptford , NJ ) - The Wall That Heals , a traveling half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington , D.C. , will visit Gloucester County September 14th through 18th . The Wall will be at RiverWinds in West Deptford. Gloucester County will hold its Military Service Medal Ceremony on Saturday, September 17 at that location as well.

"We are honored to have The Wall That Heals visit Gloucester County so that our veterans can partake in its unique healing power, and so that our children and adults of all ages can learn and share in the history of the Vietnam War, The Wall, and the era surrounding the conflict," said Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney.

Director Sweeney said, "When we learned that the Veterans Advisory Committee was successful in getting The Wall That Heals here, we stared to plan. There will be many public events during The Wall's visit, including an opening ceremony, the County's Medal Ceremony, a candle light vigil for POW/MIA Recognition Day, and a special US Postal Cancellation. We encourage everyone to come out to participate."

Freeholder Bill Krebs, liaison to Veterans Affairs said, "The names of more than 58,000 of those killed or missing in action, including 43 from Gloucester County , appear on The Wall. We are thankful to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund for making this important traveling museum possible and to the Gloucester County Veterans Advisory Committee for bringing it to us."

"Gloucester County will be presenting 284 Military Service Medals at our ceremony this year," said Freeholder Krebs. "Our medal ceremonies are always special events with a lot of emotion and pride, however, I am sure this years ceremony will be especially moving." Krebs explained that the County's Military Service Medal was designed and commissioned by the Freeholders in 2001 for all Gloucester County Veterans who have served on active duty in the military and received an honorable discharge.
