Pitman Golf Course to Host Fundraiser for Katrina Families 'Golf for Gulf:Gloucester County Cares' Tournament looking to raise $25,000 for Katrina evacuees who are now living here

(Pitman)  - Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney and Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco, Liaison to the Pitman Golf Course, announced today that Gloucester County will host a Golf Tournament & Dinner Fundraiser at the county's Pitman Golf Course on Friday, October 28th. 'Golf for Gulf: Gloucester County Cares' will be a 12 noon shotgun start scramble tournament with a 6:00 pm dinner and silent auction with all proceeds to go to benefit people affected by Hurricane Katrina.

"Gloucester County has a huge collective heart, said Freeholder Director Sweeney. Up until this point we have had many of our agencies helping Katrina evacuees get established here, and many organizations and groups have been assisting on their own. This is a way for us all to come together and roll out our welcome mat to Gloucester County , said Director Sweeney.

Freeholder Frank DiMarco said that the county would close the course to the public on the day of the tournament and would be donating the golf course toward the event in an effort to raise $25,000 for Katrina families.

The county has already been able to assist 49 people in 19 separate households affected by Katrina since they started arriving in town. The county's Board of Social Services has done a wonderful job of helping our newest additions find housing and getting them support through the federal and state government, said DiMarco. DiMarco is also liaison to the Board of Social Services. So many of our fellow Americans have suffered so much due to this tragedy that we felt it appropriate to organize an event to raise funds for the people who have come here, said DiMarco.

The ' Golf for Gulf: Gloucester County Cares ' tournament is open to the first 124 golfers who register. A fee of $200 per golfer is payable at the time of registration. Golfers can be sponsored and are free to donate more than the $200 entry. Businesses are also being asked to help provide prizes for the silent auction and tournament to and to make sponsorship donations to the event. Dinner is included in the cost of the tournament or dinner tickets can be purchased separately for $40.00.
