County celebrates Adopt A Dog Month with free and reduced cost adoptions

(Clayton, NJ) – In honor of October as Adopt a Shelter Dog month, Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Dan Christy announced that the Gloucester County Animal Shelter would waive adoption fees at the shelter for dogs six years and older and reduce fees for younger dogs and puppies to $35.00.

Adoption fees include spaying or neutering at the new clinic, among other veterinary services. The shelter currently has four dogs over the age of six, and four younger dogs available for adoption.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “Adoption from the Gloucester County Animal Shelter is typically much less expensive than adopting from a private source. Our free and reduced adoption fees for dogs in October also includes spaying or neutering, vaccines, microchipping and more. It’s a great incentive to adopt a new dog as part of your family.”

Freeholder Dan Christy, Liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter said, “We can think of no better way to celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog month then by doing as much as we can to find animals good homes. We hope that by waiving the fees on older dogs we can increase our adoption rates and get more animals into loving homes.”

Applications must be pre-approved in order to be eligible to receive a free dog. Click here to get a pre-adoption application or go to www.gloucestercountynj.gov and click on the paw print to fill out an application or call (856) 881-2828 ext. 1 for more details.

The regular fees for dogs is $125. There is a discounted $35 fee for senior citizens and military veterans. The fees for dogs include Spay/Neuter, Antigen Heartworm test, nasal Bordetella, worming, all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, collar, leash and an identification tag from Gloucester County Animal Shelter.

If the animal is not Spayed/ Neutered at the time of adoption, an appointment will be made for surgery and the animal will be delivered to the Clinic and the new owner can pick up their pet after surgery has been completed.
