Wall of Heroes ceremony scheduled for May 16

(Woodbury, NJ) – The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders invites the public to a ceremony to honor those whose likeness will be placed on the Wall of Heroes. 

The Wall of Heroes depicts the likeness of residents who were killed in action or missing in action while serving in the US Military.  The Wall represents all branches of the military and it is arranged by era in the Gloucester County Justice Complex.  The Wall of Heroes was originally unveiled in 2010.  This year two portraits will be added to the current 308 portraits hung on the Wall of Heroes.  Additionally, a plaque will be hung to represent those 48 World War II residents who were killed or missing in action, but whose photographs could not be located.  

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m at the Gloucester County Justice Complex 70 Hunter Street, Woodbury.  The ceremony lasts approximately 45 minutes and there is free parking in Justice Complex Garage and enter through the glass doors. 

This year's portraits to be hung include a likeness of Walter Piper who died as a POW in North Korea. 

The US Army has recently identified the remains of Walter Piper who died in in1951. When the US Army returns his cremains back to Gloucester County he will be buried with full Military Honors at the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery. Also being honored on the Wall of Heroes is Kenneth Seder from Woodbury, USAF, died in Germany in 1977.
