April is Child Abuse Prevention Month in Gloucester County

(Deptford, NJ) – On Monday, March 27, 2017, the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders held a workshop at Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) on intervention for depressed, anxious and traumatized children.

One hundred and twenty five public and private school social workers, guidance counselors, administrators, child study team members, along with the state's Children's System of Care, non profit agencies and Division of Child Protection and Permanency case workers attended this workshop.

In honor of recognizing April as Child Abuse prevention Month,Freeholder Jim Jefferson presented Kim Pinto, Chair of Committee on the Missing and Abused (COMA), with a proclamation during the workshop.

The workshop covered a review of common features of depression, anxiety, and PTSD for children and teenagers. Familiarization with various Evidence Based Treatment (EBT) interventions that are used by clinical community was covered and school based psycho-educational models and exercises/activities used with students to assess and reduce symptoms of mood disorders were explained.###
