Gloucester County Veterans to be honored with federal medals

(Woodbury, NJ)—Gloucester County Office of Veterans Affairs will honor 25 veterans—five of them posthumously on Wednesday, April 13, at 7p.m. in the gymnasium of Bankbridge School, 870 Bankbridge Road, Sewell.

Freeholder Director Robert Damminger said, "Our veterans deserve our deepest appreciation and thanks.  These men sacrificed time with their families and risked their lives to protect us here at home.  For that we are grateful."

Freeholder Deputy Director Giuseppe 'Joe' Chila, liaison to Veterans Affairs said, “It is with great honor that the Gloucester County Office of Veterans Affairs holds this medal ceremony.  It is the least we can do for the veterans who fought for our freedom.”

This event is open to the public and free of charge.

The veterans to be honored are:

Thelbert N. Snyder of the United States Navy.  He served during World War II, with the rank of Aviation Chief Metalsmith.  Mr. Synder was born in Vineland, NJ and now resides in Clayton.

Ralph L. Russ of the United States Army.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Sergeant.  Mr. Russ was born in Salem, NJ and now resides in Woodbury. 

John J. Fynes of the United States Army.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Specialist Fifth Class.  Mr. Fynes was born in Philadelphia, PA and now resides in Sewell.

Christopher Narducci of the United States Navy.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Operation Specialist 2nd Class.  Mr. Narducci was born in Camden, NJ and now resides in Sewell.

Herbert G. Souder, Jr. of the United States Navy.  He served during World War II with the rank of Aviation Machinists Mate Petty Officer First Class.  Mr. Souder was born in National Park, NJ and now resides in Westville. 

James E. Clucas, Jr. of the United States Army.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class.  Mr. Clucas was born in Philadelphia, PA and now resides in Wenonah. 

John B. Tucker of the United States Air Force.  He served during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant.  Mr. Tucker was born in Lawrence, MA and lived in Williamstown, NJ.  Accepting posthumously for Mr. Tucker is his wife Catherine Tucker.

Peter J. O'Brien, Jr. of the United States Army.  He served during the Iraq War and the Global War on Terrorism.  Mr. O’Brien was born in Camden, NJ and now resides in Williamstown. 

Dennis Timony of the United States Air Force.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Sergeant.  Mr. Timony was born in Burlington, NJ and now resides in Deptford.

Paul M. Turner of the United States Army.  He served during the Afghanistan War with the rank Sergeant.  Mr. Turner was born in Stratford, NJ and now resides in Swedesboro. 

Howard F. Ayres, III of the United States Army.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Operation Specialist 2nd Class.  Mr. Ayres was born in Camden, NJ and lived in Williamstown.  Accepting posthumously for Mr. Ayres is his brother Joe Ayres.

James M. Kirshner, Jr. of the United States Army.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class.  Mr. Kirshner was born in Connellsville, PA and now resides in Woodbury.

Mervin D. Boyd of the United States Marine Corps.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Corporal.  Mr. Boyd was born in Uniontown, PA and now resides in Williamstown.

Patrick S. Brock of the United States Navy.  He served during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Brock was born in Lorain, OH and now resides in Berlin. 

John A. Beck of the United States Army.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Specialist Fifth Class.  Mr. Beck was born in Philadelphia, PA and now resides in Wenonah. 

David G. Dougherty of the United States Army.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class.  Mr. Dougherty was born in Tampa, FL and now resides in Berlin. 

Zacharie G. Hirshorn of the United States Air Force and the United States Army.  He served during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom with the ranks of US Army Specialist and US Air Force Senior Airman.  Mr. Hirshorn was born in Marlton, NJ and lived in Gloucester City.  Accepting posthumously for Mr. Hirshorn is his mother, Cheryl Hirshorn and wife, Melissa Hirshorn.

Robert L. Maddred of the United States Army and the United States Air Force.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of US Army Specialist Fourth Class and US Air Force Sargeant.  Mr. Maddred was born in Camden, NJ and now resides in Williamstown.

Glen R. Walk of the United States Army with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2.  Mr. Walk was born in Sacramento, CA and now resides in Mullica Hill.

Harry Simon, Jr. of the United States Marine Corps.  He served during World War, II with the rank of Corporal.  Mr. Simon was born in Philadelphia, PA and lived in Westville.  Accepting posthumously for Mr. Simon is his daughter, Carol May. 

Wilmer G. Eichelberger of the United States Navy.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Aviation Electrician Chief Petty Officer.  Accepting posthumously for Mr. Eichelberger is his daughter, Sue Kwiatkowski.

William Knab of the United States Army.  He served during World War II with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class.  Mr. Knab was born in Philadelphia, PA and lived in Philadelphia.  Accepting posthumously for Mr. Knab is his son, William Knab. 

Robert Moreno of the United States Navy.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Airman.  Mr. Moreno was born in Bogota, Columbia and now resides in Mantua. 

Philip A. Pasquini of the United States Army.  He served during World War II with the rank of Sergeant.  Mr. Pasquini was born in Warren, OH and now resides in Turnersville. 

William F. Carlin, Jr. of the United States Marine Corps.  He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Corporal.  Mr. Carlin was born in Mantua, NJ and now resides in Newfield.
