County Announces Hot Line Up for Free Summer Concerts and Programs

(Woodbury, NJ) Citing a commitment to providing families with the opportunity for some summer fun, the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders have announced a full line-up of free summer movies, concerts, childrens events and more for the coming season.

Despite this tough economy, we want to make sure that our families can continue to enjoy some of the simple things that summertime means in Gloucester County. Free movies, free concerts, the annual WaterFest, events at Red Bank Battlefield, the 4H Fair and Peach Festival will all take place this year, announced Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger.

Damminger said, We are grateful to the corporate sponsors who help defray the costs of these programs, and we worked hard to make sure that when we adopted the countys budget with a tax decrease and a spending cut that we could still provide all of the services and programming our residents have come to expect. Quality of life is one of the main reasons that Gloucester County has been one of the fastest growing, and having clean, accessible parks and recreation is important to our residents.

Damminger said that the County offers each municipality the opportunity to hold a movie in their town. Towns are struggling too, and we made a commitment to continue to provide a free movie to all 24 municipalities. We have done this since we purchased the jumbo blow-up screen in 2006 and our Parks Department does a great job in working with our local municipalities to make sure they get scheduled for a show, Director Damminger stated.

Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco said that ticket prices for evening movies at a theater are ranging upward of $10 each. If you wanted to take a family of four to a movie you are looking at least $40 to just enter the theater. People dont have a lot of disposable income right now. Offering families the opportunity to spend some time together outdoors and enjoy a free movie or concert allows them to connect with their neighbors and community, DiMarco said.

Families bring their snacks and chairs and blankets to the movies and concerts and everyone has a really good time, Freeholder DiMarco said. Many programs we offer are educational. You can have a good time while learning about history, the environment and agriculture.

Some of the concerts and programs offered this year include:
