Shady Lane Nursing Home Acknowledged for Achievement in Quality Care

(Clarksboro, NJ) – Gloucester County’s Shady Lane Nursing Home’s success in Pressure Ulcer Prevention has resulted in a Certificate of Achievement by Healthcare Quality Strategies Inc. (HQSI).  Shady Lane has exceeded the targeted goal as part of the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Healthcare-Acquired Conditions Initiative.

Shady Lane staff began working on this initiative in August 2011.  “This is a big accomplishment for Shady Lane Home because the nursing team and staff strive everyday to be the best in the industry not just Gloucester County,” said Freeholder Director Robert Damminger.

Some of the practices that were instituted included: repositioning residents who are not able to reposition themselves every two hours or more frequently, depending on the need, so they are not on one body part for too long, which could lead to wounds; using products on residents skin that helps make them less susceptible to breakdown; specialty mattresses for residents that are at risk of skin breakdown; dietician participation to provide extra supplements to aid in healing; and weekly visits from a nurse practitioner that specializes in would care.

HQSI directly reports to the Centers of Medicaid and Medicare Services, which is a source of funding for Shady Lane Nursing Home.
