Dec. 18 is Deadline for Picking Up Approved Animal Shelter Adoptees Pets will be released again on Dec. 26

(Clayton, NJ) – The Gloucester County Animal Shelter is reminding potential families who wish to adopt a pet this holiday season that Wednesday, Dec. 18 is the last day to pick up an approved adopted animal from the shelter until Dec. 26.

Bill Lombardi, Director of the Gloucester County Animal Shelter said that although many families want to put a kitten or puppy under the tree for Christmas morning, that the stress of a new home, the hazards of many holiday decorations and people coming into and out of households during Christmas time make it dangerous for the animals.

Freeholder Director Robert Damminger said, “Families still have time to go to the Shelter and pick out a pet for the holidays and get approved before December 18.  Or, they can choose a pet and if they want to surprise someone with it as a gift, they can put a collar or water bowl in a box and wrap it up and get their new addition after December 26.”

The adoption process for a pet usually takes between 2 and 3 days.  To speed up the process people can go online to http://www.co.gloucester.nj.us/services/a/appeleanimal.asp to fill out an Animal Adoption Pre-Adoption Application.

“The Animal Shelter staff and volunteers do an outstanding job at helping families choose the pet that will fit best with the household and surroundings,” said Freeholder Adam Taliaferro.  “Adopting from the Shelter is an amazing gift for the animal as well as a family.”

The Gloucester County Animal Shelter is located at 1200 N. Delsea Drive, Clayton.  For questions about adopting or Shelter hours call (856) 881-2828 or go to www.gloucestercountynj.gov and click on Animal Shelter.
