Summer Extended School Year (ESY)
"Circle of Friends" - Summer Enrichment Program
Gloucester County offers a five week Extended School Year (ESY) for school aged children enrolled in Gloucester County School Districts. This summer enrichment program offers a Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum for students diagnosed with social and emotional disorders.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a curriculum that helps students identify and process their emotions in productive ways, form healthy relationships with peers and adults, and make responsible decisions.
The Program will be offered for five weeks from July 6 through August 6, 2020. Students arrive at 8:30 am and are dismissed at 1:30 pm.
It is a four day week, Monday through Thursday, as it is aligned with the Bankbridge School schedule as a transportation convenience for school districts.
The home district is responsible for transportation of students and the tuition which will be invoiced in August, 2019
TUITION IS $1,500. FOR FIVE WEEKS OR $300. A WEEK. A FULL FIVE WEEKS IS RECOMMENDED FOR OPTIMAL PROGRAM SUCCESS
Circle of Friends has implemented three learning goals for student’s success:
Goal 1 - Develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success.
Goal 2 - Use social-awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships.
Goal 3 - Demonstrate decision-making skills and responsible behavior in personal, school and community environments.
Students will learn five core SEL skills:
1 - Self-awareness
2 - Social awareness
3 - Self-management
4 - Relationship skills
5 - Responsible decision making
These skills focus on students being responsible for their actions, being honest, recognizing their own and others’ feelings, and communicating respectfully in order to solve problems.
Teaching these skills will improve students’ classroom behavior, readiness to learn and social-emotional development.
Students will practice strategies to manage their anger, fear, and stress, and ways to refuse engaging in risky behaviors.
Professional staff and a student to staff ratio that does not exceed 3:1 assists students to identify, process and react to emotions in productive ways.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IN 2020, THE PROGRAM WILL BE HELD ON THE CAMPUS OF GLOUCESTER COUNTY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (GCIT) LOCATED ON TANYARD ROAD IN DEPTFORD. THIS IS A TEMPORARY LOCATION DUE TO FACILITY CONSTRUCTION AT BANKBRIDGE SCHOOLS
