The Gloucester County Division of Human and Disability Services is an ADRC agency helping to connect people with disabilities, 18 years of age and older, with the services they need to achieve and maintain independent living in the community. Gloucester County is also a member of the New Jersey Association of County Disability Services, whose role is to ensure access and inclusion of residents with disabilities in all areas of the community. The Division of Human & Disability Services is a comprehensive center offering information, direct services, referrals and community advocacy. Our mission is to serve as a single point of contact for individuals with disabilities needing information and services from birth through adult life. Our goal is to provide access to services that increase educational, vocational, social opportunities, transitional services from school to work, and personal health and care.
The Division also provides support that promotes and assists individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate in all areas of community life through collaboration and cooperation with all agencies in the human services system.
The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. The Division of Disability Services has been designated to coordinate ADA issues, serve as a resource for municipalities and the community, and examine the impact of regulations that may impact the disabled community.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990. 2015 marked the 25th Anniversary of this transformational legislation which is known as the Civil Rights Act for individuals with disabilities. Throughout 2015, the nation celebrated this landmark event as a way of bringing attention to the important work that has been done to promote equal opportunity for people with disabilities and to highlight the work that is yet to be done.
