Re.: Plea in Westville NJ robbery
James Q. Harris (DOB 1/19/90), of Cherry Hill NJ, pleaded guilty today (11/30) to the armed robbery of two men on Broadway in Westville NJ on 11/11/16.
As a result of the plea to the second-degree offense, Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Joseph Brook will recommend that Harris be sentenced to eight years in New Jersey state prison. Under the New Jersey No Early Release Act, he must serve 85 percent of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Superior Court Judge M. Christine-Allen Jackson scheduled sentencing for 1/26/18.
Harris and codefendant Steven A. Cooley (DOB 10/26/89), of Woodlynne NJ were charged with accosting the two victims on the street, going through the pockets of one man, but obtaining nothing before the defendants fled. One victim reported that one of the men had a handgun. Through investigation, Cooley was identified as a suspect and arrested 2/1/17 and Harris was taken into custody 2/17/17. Harris had been in jail since his arrest. Cooley is presently a fugitive.
