FREEHOLDER
Freeholder Giuseppe (Joe) Chila is currently serving his first term on the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Raised in Greenwich Township, Freeholder Chila is a lifelong resident of Gloucester County and now resides in Woolwich Township with his wife Peg and their two children Domenic and Michael.
Freeholder Chila is a graduate of Paulsboro High School and the Gloucester County Institute of Technology. He completed his apprentice training with I.B.E.W. 351 in 1990 and is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Lu. 351 AFL-CIO. He has been working as a union electrician since 1986.
Since 2003, Joe Chila has served as the Mayor of Woolwich Township where he has led the fast growing Township in instituting smart growth principles in development and has been committed to preserving farmland and open space for his community.
Joe Chila is currently a member of the Executive Board of the New Jersey League of Municipalities. He has previously served as President of the Gloucester County Mayor’s Association, a member of the Woolwich Township Planning Board, the Swedesboro/Woolwich Board of Education, and as President of the Swedesboro Woolwich Soccer Association.
Freeholder Chila’s responsibilities on the Freeholder Board include
overseeing and serving as liaison for the Office of Veteran Affairs, Office of Consumer Protection/Weights and Measures, the County Library, Information Technology, Police Academy, the Probation Department, the County Prosecutor, Wage and Hour, Housing Authority, Construction Board of Appeals, and Human Relation Commission.
